SOLD Napoleon child mannequin with 18th century silk costume, child mannequin, 1790s suit,
Giles would like to introduce himself. He has been part of my collection for many years. He came to live with me when his family from the south of France downsized and didn't have room for him any more.
He is a cheery little chap in his pistachio green tailcoat. His clothes were made in the 1800s but in the style worn at the end of the 1700s. The cutaway coat in beautiful self striped figured silk, is the most glorious colour - the true colour is shown in the photographs in the middle section. The little pants are drop front style with a section that buttons in the centre and a panel which buttons over the top of it. The waist coat is made in woven silk brocade with a floral motif which picks up the colour of the coat. The back of the waistcoat is cotton and it has a waistband which can be adjusted to fit. The buttons are gold coloured and are different sizes of the same style. They have 'Superfine Paris' printed on the reverse.
I believe this little outfit was made for a page boy and was worn for a wedding. There is a little rubbing at the inseam of the legs and a couple of small marks on the pants which can be seen on the photographs.
The coat is in excellent condition. The pants have evidence of wear. There are a few breaks in the seams which just require mending. The waistcoat requires a little TLC. The neckband needs re-attaching at the back of the neck. The rever on one side of the neck also needs a few stitches. I can do all this for you, at no extra cost if you prefer.
Giles himself has been in the wars. He has a few small tears on his timeworn fabric and his bottom has been damaged. He can stand but is a little unstable. There is evidence of old woodworm in his boots. If you would like to see further photographs, please don't hesitate to ask.
This listing is for the Napoleon mannequin (Giles) wearing the silk 18th century style suit.
He will be shipped from France, tracked and insured.
