1920s dress, flapper, assuit, black, gold, vintage dress, French
This amazing, asymmetric, assuit tabard style dress dates to the 1920s-1930s. It has been carefully made from an assuit shawl, embellished with black beaded neckline and swaying beaded fringe.
The boat neckline has been created by gathering each side of the shawl to create a pretty shoulder line and in turn form cap sleeves. The shoulders have a popper fastening to make the dress easier to get on. The neckline is decorated with tiny black seed beads. Both sides are open, requiring an under slip to be worn.
The main fabric has a simple overall pattern with a deep border at each end. As if this wasn't enough, a swaying, beaded fringe border is the final touch!
The condition is amazing with just a few loose beads one side of the neckline (which I can mend if you would like) and a small area of oxidisation at one shoulder. There was a badly attached waist stay, which I have removed as it was not original to the dress.
The mannequin in the photographs is a vintage 38. It is too small for the shoulder line of the dress, which I believe would hang correctly on up to a size 44. The belt in the images is not included with the dress, but can be purchased separately.
Width all the way down to the hem 32" gathered at the shoulders.
Length at back 43"
Length at front 40"
