SOLD - 1890s green corset laced back jacket with leg o mutton sleeves and 36" bust 25" waist
This amazing silk velvet corset laced back jacket is in amazing condition for a garment that is more than 100 years old.
The green velvet is plush and has no discolouration and no flattening of the pile. It was professionally made and sold by Mesdemoiselles Ritter of Vesoul in France. The waist stay bears her branding. Even the lining is interesting and shows cute dogs with pink bows - just adorable! The lining is a glazed cotton.
The silhouette is very in vogue today and would look great with modern clothing.
Waist 25" (the waist stay inside is 24 1/2" but could be adjusted)
Top of neckline 13 1/2" Base of neckline 14 3/4"
Side seam - underarm to hem 10"
Length of underarm sleeve seam 15 1/2"
Armhole circumference 17 1/2"
Wrist 6 1/4"
The fastenings are simply the lacing at the back. Someone has added a popper later at the neckline. This is not original to the garment.
The jacket once had more bones in the back. These have been removed prior to me purchasing it. The boning remains in the front and sides.
The only imperfections are some tiny nicks in the fabric. One sleeve head has a nick where the fabric has been attached to the lining to form a specific shape (this is hidden in the folds of fabric. The other is where one sleeve joins the shoulder - see photograph supplied.
This lovely jacket is strong enough to wear so long as your measurements are within those given above. It should not be worn as a corset, to give you a smaller form.
