La Mode Illustree 1871/1872 - Brown Premier edition with no colour plates
This fashion journal is an ideal resource for fashion designers, historical costumiers, and re-enactors who create their own clothing. When I bought it, I was informed it came from a fashion atelier. On the frontispiece in pencil is written '16eme Dior'
This large book has card boards covered in dark brown paper with leather, gold tooled spine. It measures 37.5cm high x 27cm wide and 2.5cm deep. It weighs more than 2kg.
There are 412 pages for 1872 plus 61 pages from 1871 (8 weekly editions)
Many pages include black and white illustrations of the latest fashions of the day and instructions for the construction of the patterns Illustrated in the magazine.
The binding is in strong, if battered condition. Inside the edges of the pages are in reasonable condition but a few of the pages towards the front of the book have been crayoned on with purple pencil.
